LOVERS OF THE GOOD
a new play by Leo James Osborn
a developmental reading directed by Cary Sasso
“Lovers of the Good” follows Jason, a fledgling youth pastor in suburban North Carolina who dreams of one day planting a church of his own. When a member of his youth group comes out to him as nonbinary, Jason finds himself caught between the derisive church elders and the charismatic trans father of the kid’s best friend from school. "Lovers of the Good" is a play about deconstruction, desire, the questions we’re too afraid to ask ourselves and each other, and what happens when the values we were raised to adhere to all come crashing down around us. It's also kind of about the rapture.
Content warning: transphobia, homophobia, weaponization of religious language
